GARRISON OFFICERS’ BALL.

A BRILLIANT FUNCTION. The annual ball under the auspices of the Wellington Garrison Officers’ Club was held in the Sydney street Schoolroom last evening, and proved an immeitis success; the only drawback being a lack or dancing space. The decorations, which were made under the direction of Colonel Collins, assisted by Captains Ilarcourt. Turner and Henderson, were lavish, appropriate and effective to a degree; and a gun captured from the Boers by one of the contingents and placed on the stage attracted a great deal of attention. las Excellency the Governor wrote to the committee expressing his regret that the lamentable death of H.I.M. Empress Frederick would prevent his attendance at the ball. Careless of an impending "want of confidence ' motion, the Premier was a prominent figure amongst the guests, and occasionally took his place amongst the dancers The official set which danced the opening lancers was composed as follows:—Colonel Penton and Mrs Seddon; Lieut.-Colonel Collins and Airs Dnncan; Lieut.-Commander Duncan and Lady Douglas; Alnjor Brandon and Airs Collins; Alajor Owen and Miss Brandon; Captain Duthie and Airs Owen; Captain Lomax and Miss Seddon; Captain poison and Airs (Colonel) Butts.
