FIRES.
BRISBANE, August 6. A fire at Ravenswood, about 770 miles north-west of Brisbane, destroyed a block of nine business places. The amount of damage is not stated. NELSON, August 5. A seven-roomed residence owned and occupied by Mr Vere Bogle was burned to the ground early last evening. A portion of the furniture was saved. The fire is supposed to have been caused by a candle peing loft too near a curtain in the children’s bedroom. The house and contents were insured, but particulars are not yet availuble.
The fira brigade turned out at a quarter past twelve this morning to an alarm from Webb street, which proved to be false.
