GREYTOWN NORTH.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) Saturday, 12.20 p.m. A public meeting was held last evening to discuss the proposed bridges at Papawai, near Grey town. /Resolutions were passed—(l) That this representative meeting considers that the. bridges reported on by_ Mr Hay four years ago across the Waiohine and Ruamahanga rivers should be built for the benefit of the Greytown district. (2) That a copy of the resolution he sent to the Premier soliciting his favourable consideration of it in the public interest, and also one to the member for the district, with the respectful request that h e will use his utmost endeavours to obtain the great boon hereby sought to be secured for the people. During the meeting Mr Hornsby was questioned relative to his action in striking off the £2OOO vote last year, several speakers being of opinion that but for him the vote would have been passed. He explained that he was told the vote was for renewing the Waiohine bridge and he therefore moved to have it struck out as the money was not required for this bridge. He promised to assist the people of Greytown to obtain assistance, but pointed out that the Minister of Lands said he would not give a grant until the Government could purchase 20,000 acres • east of the Ruamahanga.
