ENTERTAINMENTS.

A SEASON 01’ OPERA. Mr James U. Love, general manager of the Josephine Stanton Opera Company’, lias arrived in WeU'ington to make arrangements for the opening at the Opera Hon.se on the 26th jnst of the Josephine Stanton Opera Company, the members of which arrived in Auckland from San Francisco a few weeks ago. Mr Love was formerly’ associated with Miss Nance O’Neill, and was responsible for her appearance under Mr J. C. 'Williamson’s management to a Melbourne audience The Blanton Opera. Company has an extensive repertoire, and the organisation comes with a firstclass reputation. The soc-nd annual ball given by Messrs Whitcombe and To nibs’s employees was hold at the Druids’ Hall, Taranaki street, hist night. There were about eighty couples present. Songs were render. by Messrs .Boot, Tabor, Pinsons and Hendry. King’s band supplied the dance music, and .uessrs B. J. i’inucano and A. Warwick officiated as M.C.’s Dancing was kept np till a late hour. A very enjoyable evening was spent by all present. There was a very enthusiastic audience at the Opera House last evening to see the performance of the Ada Delroy Company. The vagaries of Mr James Bell and the dances of Miss Ada Delroy met with ranch applause, while the biograph views evoked hearty demonstrations of approval. There will be a matinee performance this afternoon, and a change of programme to-night. The Dix Gaiety Company had a splendid house last night at the Theatre Royal. The whole of the numerous company had a very hearty reception, and the ‘'turns” of the black-faced minstrels were greeted with applause. There will be an entire change of programme tonight. The Fuller Empire Vaudeville Company performed before a big house at the Choral Hall last night. The dummy clown, Mr Fred Garnet, was vigorously applauded, and Mr Blutch Jones had to respond to unlimited encores. Tonight there will be an entire change of programme. A pleasant evening was spent at the Missions to Seamen last night, when Mr James Moore spoke on “What to do in crowds,” and “Queer Cures.” Mr F. H. Pope presented a popular programme, in which he was assisted by Messrs F. Slack, H. Moore, Smith, Thomas and Thompson. The Orpheus Liedertafel will give a popular concert in the Skating Rink on Thursday next, when a “feast of music” will bo provided. Madame Eveleen Carlton and Mr Maughan Barnett will assist. Songs will bo sung by Messrs Philip Palmer, Russell Halley and J: M. Izett. Mr Laurence F. Watkins will conduct The full programme will be published in Monday’s issue.
