A WELLINGTON REGATTA CLUB. ITS FORMATION DECIDED UPON. A proposal to form a regatta club for Wellington was considered at the Star Boating Club’s shed last evening by representatives of the. Star, Wellington and Petone Clubs. air G. H. Bethune. captain of the Star Club, was voted to the chair, and briefly stated the object of the meeting.. They hadi met together, he said, in order to consider the question of forming a permanent rowing association in Wellington. It was felt that there should exist some responsible body to carry out an annual rowing regatta in Wellington. The idea originated at the last meeting of the Rowing Regatta Committee of the present season, the object Being to have an association representative of the Star, Wellington, Petone and Horowhenna Clubs, as well as all interested in the sport. It was thought that the association should be formed somewhat on the lines of the Christchurch Regatta Club. . Supporting Mr Bethune's remarks, Mr E. S. Smith, captain of the Wellington Rowing Club, said that in the past regattas at Wellington had always been conducted in a more or less haphazard manner, there being no certainty at the beginning of the season whether the regatta would take place or not. ' It was unanimously decided that a local regatta club be formed to promote rowing regattas in Wellington. On the motion of Mr Bridge, it was decided to ask the different clubs to appoint three delegates to draw up rules for the proposed association, and report at a future meeting. ; Mr Smith was unanimously elected pro-' | visional secretary.
