THE ROYAL VISIT

THE- PREMIER AND THE 'MAYOR OP DUNEDIN.

Mr R. Chisholm, Mayor of Dunedin, has sent the following reply to the Premier’s telegram, published Yesterday :

“Many thanks for your telegram, which is explicit, and, to /my mind, (satisfactory. What the Government proposes to do is. I think, all that could reasonably .be expected. The occasion is unique, as it‘is important, and deserves a- very special effort to more deeply impress their Royal Highnesses with a true sense of our love and loyalty to Throne and Empire; and patriotic ' Otago and Southland will make the last stage in the Royal party’s triumphal march through this fair land of ours ever memorable. ■ Climate here not congenial to ‘faint hearts.’ They have long ceased boating, and the enthusiasm in which- you> have unbound-, ed confidence is fresh and green as ever./—Chisholm, Mayor.’’

THE EXECUTIVE COMMISSIONER. Mr John Holmes, the Commissioner of the Government for the Royal reception, left by the Te Anau for the South yesterday afternoon. He will catch the southern express at Christchurch this morning, and go- on to Dunedin.' Mr Holmes has already telegraphed _ informing the Mayor of Dunedin of iris-intended visit. Since his return from Auckland the Commissioner has had -several interviews , with his Worship the Mayor and Mr Eergussoh, of the Harbour Board, in reference to the Wellington reception. Judging from the advices already received, Mr Holmes expects no difficulty whatever as to the. financial aspect of the question throughout the'colony. The Royal visit to New Zealand will be, as he expresses it. one triumphal march from Auckland to Dunedin.
