BAPTIST CHURCH.

The 23rd anniversary of the Wellington i Baptist Church was celebrated yesterday by special services, which/were conducted by the Rev J. C. Martin, of Napier.. Mr Martin, who has. only recently settled in Napier, was for a considerable time in charge of the Parramatta. Baptist Church, near Sydney. During the services special anthems were rendered by the; choir, under the leadership of Mr C. Collins. In the anthem "Come let ns Sing unto the Lord," the parts were taken hv Mesdames C.-S;.jGpdber,and-Howe, and Messrs J. Nicol and Shearer, while- the solo in “Seek Ye the Lord was taken by Mrs Wallace: -The services will bo continued to-morrow evening, when the annual report and balance-sheet will ho read., and addresses given by various speakers.’

At the tea and public meeting to be held to-morrow night in connection with the anniversary the meeting will bo addressed ■by the Rev J. C. Martin. Rev C. Dallaston. Mr A'. Hoby and others. The annual report to be road shows that during the year substantial advance was made in church work. The memhershin has been increased by 29, making the total at the end of the year 323. The general fund receipts have amounted to ,£482 Os 4d,*nnd • expenditure (including a debit balance of' d!40l f‘47B tCs Id. leaving a credit balance of .23 4s 3d. The total receipts from all sources for'the year was ,2899 19s 10s. Good work is stated to have been done in tin* missionary branch, a cum of .22*)2 7s Gd having been raised. The church is represented on the mission field by Mr and Mrs ■T. Takle (Chandnore. India! and Mr T. Escort (Poonah Mission, In dial. During the year a new church was erected at’Berhampore. and tb" Rev W. 1.. Salter secured for the oversight <£ the work at Ohiro and Bertram pore. The senior and junior Endeavour Societies are in .a flourishing condition, and have raised a Considerable amount For , mission work. Open-air services are held each fine Sunday evening hv various members.
