WANGANUI AUTUMN MEETING. SECOND DAY. ' PRESS ASSOCIATION. WANGANUI, March 8. For the second day’s races the weather was showery and unpleasant. The sum of £10,099 was passed through tho machine, making a total of £19,766 for tho meeting, as against £20,326 last year. Results; Autumn Handicap, one mile and a distance. —69 Mr E. J. Rao’s The Needle, aged, by Brigadier—Dressmaker, 7st bib (Bird), 1; 74 Bona Fide. 7st 121 b (MoAleer), 2; 61 Gipsy Queen (Jones), 3. An excellent start was effected, Gipsy Queen being first to break tho line, followed by The Needle, Bona Fide bringing np tho rear. The Needle assumed command about a quarter of a mile from home, where Bona Fide made a forward move. An interesting struggle ensued between The Needle, Bona Fide and Gipsy Queen, the first-named winning by about half a length. Time, 2mi n 5 l-ssec. Dividend, £l3 2s. Moifaa ledi past the. stand, his nearest attendant being Vanquish. The pair raced together down the back of the course, where Waiwera. fell back beaten. A quarter of a mile from home Ngapuhi ran up to Moifaa, but could not pass tbe Natator gelding. The latter led into the straight. Half-way home Troubadour shot out, but the leader had too much left, and won by a couple of lengths. Time, 3min 54 4-ssec. Dividend, £6 Is. .

From a good start Uhlan went to the front, and led past the stand, Kahmvai and Skobeleff being next. Uhlan maintained his lead down the back stretch, but dropped back beatan when tackled by Nobility and Skobeleff. The chestnut showed the way into the straight, followed by Skobeleff. An interesting duel ensued between the pair, the judge’s decision being in favour of Skobeleff, who won by a few inches. Ideal, who came very fast at the finish on the outside, was a good third.
