THE GROCERS' PICNIC

The grocers of kVeiiiugton held their annual picnic at the Railway Recreation Grounds, Upper Halt, yesterday. The picnickers, nundiemig about Bdo, were conveyed by special train at 0.30 o’clock in the morning and returned about 7 p.rn. The weather during the early part of the day was showery, but it cleared about noon, and a most enjoyable day wars spent. Jn.pp s Band accompanied. the party, and considerably enlivened the proceedings during the day. T. Hai-| ley, an employee ef tho Wairarapa Far-’ mers’ Co-operative Association, won the I Grocers’ Handicap, of three distances. 1 Tho sports officials were—Referee, Mr j Mclhvraith ; handicapper and .starter, I .Mr T. W. Leslie; judges, Messrs W. : Vv'yiio and T? Stevenson. Mr James Moston acted as lion, secretary and treasurer, and he is to a word of praise for the successful manner in which the affair was carried cut.
