DEATH OF A PASSENGER.
s USPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES. BODY EXHUMED IN SYDNEY.

SYDNEY, March 3
Owing to certain suspicions circumstances coming to tho knowledge of the City Ooioncr, the body of XL Conway, a Dunedin passenger who died ttnoard tho steamer Taluue on February 10th, was exhumed from the Rookwood Cemetery yesterday. An inquest was opened and adjourned till Friday. It will bci remembered that when llic remains were landed at Sydney the Coroner dispensed with an inquest, tho cause of death, being given as a fit, to which the deceased was alleged to be subject. The authorities arc very reticent in regard to the matter, the Coroner having intimated that it is not in the interests of justice to publish tho evidence at present.
The police refuse to give any information, bilt inquiries in other directions indicate that tho police are acting upon rumours which wore current amongst other passengers to the effect that the circumstances ' surrounding Conway’s death were not altogether consistent with natural causes. Statements have also been made that Conway was supposed to have certain valuables in his possession, but a search of his luggage failed to discover any
