SWIMMING.
The Thorndon Amateur Swimming 'Club met last evening and made final arrangements for its carnival, which will take place at .the Thorndon Baths on Saturday next. Mr Malcolm Champion, the New Zealand representative at tho Australian meeting, who is expected to arrive here on Saturday morning, is conceding as much as forty, seconds in one of the events, and that to one of tho best local swimmers. The probable presence of Champion' alone ' should draw a large crowd of spectators. Competitors from Nelson, Greymouth, Palmerston North, Foxton and Blenheim have entered, and some record times are anticipated. . -
