That old-established fixture, the anniversary regatta of the Port Nicholson Yacht Club was held yesterday. A stiff north-wester made shortened sail the order of the day, and the more cautious were justified, for occasionally there were sonio nasty gusts, and portions , of the courses were anyming but pleasurable to ' negotiate. - The programme as framed comprised two races for each class of yachts. The events set down for the forenoon were all sailed, with the exception of that for IS-foot bouts, for which there wero no entries. The races for the smaller classes fixed for the afternoon wore postponed. In the early part of the afternoon the wind fell a little for a couple of hours, though it was still strong and puffy. By -1 o’clock the wind freshened again, and raised a considerable sea. It had been arranged that the steamer Wainui should follow tjio races, both in the morning and tiro afternoon, but in consequence of the stalo of the weather the number of passengers offering was very small, and the excursion was abandoned. Interest in the finishes of the races was displayed by a, fairly large number of people, moat of whom were cither .at the club sheds, on the outer tee of the Queen’s Wharf, or aboard the steamer Knight Templar at Jorvois quay. The arrangements for the regatta were complete, and it is to .be regretted that the foresight shown was not belter rewarded Following are details of the racing; First-class Yachts, rating; open to yachts of 5 rating and over; prizes, first £lO, second £3, third £ls; course, from starting line between southern extremity of _ Queen's Wharf and the destructor chimney, to and round buoy off Pinnacle Koch, thence to and round club buoy off Korokoro (keeping on town side of Ward and Soames Islands), thence’ to arid across starting hue ; distance, lot knots.—-There were two competitors.
