The modern torpedo boat may be said to date its genesis from a small model steamboat which John Thornycroft made as a boy. Hie engines were formed from the cylinders of a toy-locomotive that Mr Thornycroft senior had constructed to carry his children round his large studio, and among other features the little vessel was fitted with a dosed stokehold and fan, the propeller, too, being relatively large and low in position. These innovations were perfected by Mr Thornycroft in his designs of later years, when, bn turning his attention solely to the coastructon of torpedo boats, he became a leader in his profession. The new Hercules refrigerator at the Belfast Freezing Works was started on Friday (says the “Lyttelton Times”). This will increase the freezing capacity of the works to over 5000 sheep per day. On Friday 504-5 sheep and lambs were killed for freezing, establishing a record in this department. ."One is na sae soon heal’d as hurt.” You will never be hurt if you drink nothing hut A. and B Mackay’s Liqueur Whisky. 8
