OTAGO ANGLICAN SYNOD.
0V Telegraph.—Press Assentation, Dunedin. October 25. The Anglican Diocesan Synod was opened yesterday. Bishop Novill, in his address, endorsed what Bishop Wallis had said respecting religious instruction in schools. Tho chief feature of public interest at yesterday's sitting was tho report of the Commission on tho Gothenburg and other systems for the control of intoxicating liquors. The first motion was one merely approving the report, and providing for its cirouUtion.but as the dabate proceeded the feeling grew that something more definite should be attempted and eventually it was resolved, on division, to mend the formation of a Publiohouse Reform League to educate opinion on the principle of sale without private profit, and to encourage the initiation of public houses of refreshment on the lines suggested in the report of tho Commissioners.
