THE TUAPEKA ELECTION.
Special to the “ Times.” Lawrence, October 25. Mr James Sim, the Government candidate, has retired from the contest for the Taapeka seat. He delivered his opening speech atEao’s Junction last evening, but as ho did not make the impression he thought he would, and as he was somewhat piqued at the action of a few of his professed supporters, ho made up his mind to withdraw from the fight._ Mr Sim’s retirement is certain to improve the position (of Messrs Gilkison and Eamsay, and it is therefore expected that the former will press Mr Eawlins, who is still looked upon as the favourite, but whether he will succeed in heading the poll cannot with any certainty be said. The election is going to bo a veiy interesting one.
