THE RIVAL ROUTES.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Stratford, October 25. A largely-attended meeting was addressed last night by Mr P. B. Cheal, one of the delegates of the Auckland Railway League. _ ' It was resolved unanimously:—" 1. That thanks be given to Mr Cheat for his able address, and that the meeting respectfully urge upon the Government the necessity of making immediately a fresh detailed ourvey of the uncompleted portion of the central lino and of the Stratford route, with a full report on the character of tho country through which the respective routes pass, hid 'the natural - resources - of the land opened up by each route. 2. That the iij'eeting itself to support the Auckland people in oyepy legitimate effort to get the trunk railway constructed via the Stratford route, provided that op further inquiry the Stratford route is found suitable as a main trunk line. 3. That copies of the resolutions bo sent to the Premier and the Auckland and Taranaki members of both Houses.” All tho speakers urged that on the fullest inquiry the more the Stratford route became known, the more its value to the colony would be recognised.
