MR LELY’S ENTERTAINMENTS. At the Opera House last Mr Durward Lely gave another recital of Scottish songs. He drew upon the writings of eight or nine of Scotland’s birds, and after introducing them both eloquently and humorously, sang the songs he had selected with great taste and skill. In the second part of tho programme came two number-* not often heard, namely, Hector MuN -ill’s Jcauio’a Black E'e,” and June* Hook’s Doou the Burn. Davie, Love! ’ These were driven wth a due appreciation of their characteristic beauties. A stirring rendering of “ The B*.ttle of Burling Budge” gained the enthusiastic aoproval of tho audience and a stanza of the patriotic fong had to ho r**peit»d Frauhn ETy Fich* played Bruch’- ‘‘Rjru -i.cc” and i- * Jrad e Song ” by Miska Hauser. Her admirers were pleased to hear her in the simple lullaby, and their gratification was increased when she added as an encore Xiaff’s r ” Cavatina,” of which she, and Mr Gunter at the piano, gave an admirable performance. With his Queen’s Birthday entertainment this evening Mr Durward Lely will bring his ) season to a close. The programme, which is described as naval and patriotic, ia exceedingly attractive. It contains both former favourites and some standard songs which Mr Lely will sing here for the first time Among tho latter is the ‘‘Death of Nelson” ; and the last song which the accomplished tenor will sing in Wellington is the ” Star-apangLd Banner,” the popular American battle-song, which in view of the possibility of an AngloAmerican allUnoo will no doubt evoke general enthusiasm. Tho programme will be varied by tho remarkable violin playing of Fraulein Fuchs, with which Mr Outward Lely is so pleased that he has engaged the gifted young artist fat his * dstruliau tour. The company leave for Auckland oa Thursday;

SKATING RINK ENTERTAINMENT. According to promise, Mr Cadftcw publishes in this isade his programme for tonight’s entertainment at the Skating Rink. Rosal Arthur, tho programme is really of great merit. Mr CadZoW’s efforts in arranging snob an excellent programme should be rewarded by a full bouse.

An entertainment was given at Thomas’Hall last evening under the auspices of th© New Zealand Natives’ Association. Mr Len. Sawtell gave a “zoophonio” entertainment, in which he imitated with remarkable accuracy numerous animals and bird. j , causing shrieks of laughter by his imitation of a pig Owing to eomemisunderstanding Mr Sawtell’b turn only lasted about 20 minutes, the management being under the impression that it would last for over an hour. A humorous discussion arose as to how the evening was to be filled in, some members proposing an impromptu contort, but thus suggestion falling through, it was decided to return the money taken at the doors and close tho meeting. Mr J, Myers occupied the chair. The Bright Lights Minstrel Company announce that, owing to an engagement in Wanganui, there will be no performance at the Exchange Hall On Wednesday, but that they will ro-appear on Saturday.
