WELLINGTON RUGBY UNION.

The Management Committee met last night. Present Messrs Bate (chairman), Davy,Coffey, King, Fagni, Matter, and Key Father Hickson. The Secretary stated that four teams had been entered for tho proposed Fourth-olass Championship. As it was thought that some of the clubs not yet affiliated to the Union might join in order to compete in the championship, the question of instituting the proposed new competition was deferred, until next meeting, Messrs Matter and Davy wore elected timekeepers for Saturday’s matches at the Athletic Park. In reference to tho subject of rough play, a latter was read from the Melrose Club asking that the Union should make an inquiry into the Dtatomenta made in the , press that the members of that club had been gaily of rough play. It was decided to reply that no official complaint had been made to the Union, and that it could not solely aot on anonymous letters appearing in the press. It was stated during the discussion that tho Union would make an example of the first player against whom rough play was proved. A letter was received from the Referees’ Association drawing attention to tho condition of the grounds at Petono. It was decided to reply that the matter had been attended to as far as possible, and that a member of the committee (Mr Pagni) would visit the grounds next Saturday and present a report at next meeting. Tho Melrose Club was granted permission to play the Union Club of Mastorton at Master ten on May 21th. It was decided to inform the Manawatu Union that if possible a representative team would be sent to Palmerston this season, but that the question of a data would have to be held over. „ ~ , ... gijThe Nelson Engby Union wrote stating that it was considering* the question of sending a team to Wellington this season. The Petono Borough Council wrote stating that it intended to ereofc a dressing-room on the Petone ground. A report was received from the referee (Mr A. O’Connell) in reference to the Wellington Olnb’a appeal against St. Patrick’s College being awarded the junior matoh between the representatives of the two olnbs, and as it appeared from it that the points appealed on were questions of fact, the appeal was dismissad. ■ . Transfers were granted as follow: —Kia Ora—W. Hayes, first to second fifteen, his place to be taken by F. Death. Petone— Gilchrist and W. Hiddler, from first to second, their places to bo fl’led by Woods and J. Pbilp respectively. Oriental —J. Moeller and P. Willis from first to second, their planes to ha taken by W. Avery and A. F.
