By Telegraph.—Press Association. SOUTHLAND FROZEN MEAT COMPANY. Invercargill, February 9. The annual meeting of the Southland Frozen Meat Company was held to-day, and was attended by over 200 shareholders. The Chairman stated that the loss of £IO,OOO on the year’s operations was almost solely due to tho falling prices at Home. A motion was carried, with only two dissentients, accepting the offer of Turnbull, Martin and Co. and the New Zealand Shipping Company to guarantee advances to the extent of £IO,OOO to enable the Company to carry on, on condition that they have sole control of the business.

THE HALF-HOLIDAY IN AUCKLAND, Auckland, February 9.

This afternoon is very generally observed as tho half-holiday. The exemptions are found to be much fewer than was anticipated, in consequence of Mr Carew’s decision, and the combination of other businesses with those exempted. The amusements included a monster picnic by the Early Closing Association, races at Avondale, etc.

Napier, February 9. Tho Magistrate’s Court has been occupied for the last two days in hearing seven charges of false pretences and theft preferred against Karl P. Mortensen by Thomas Tanner. Accused was manager of the Piripiri sawmills, and it is alleged that he never accounted for £382 which Mr Tanner handed him for clients. Accused was committed for trial.

Auckland, February 9. The German warship Falke lias arrived from Samoa.

Invercargill, February 8. The Chamber of Commerce recommends the Government to carry lime for agricultural purposes free of charge upon the railways.

Christchurch, February 9. Two red deer imported from Victoria by the Otago Acclimatisation Society arrived by the Taluue, and will be placed in quarantine for 90 days.
