ALLEGED WAREHOUSE ROBBERY.

THREE PERSONS ARRESTED.

A youth named Charles Gordon Faithful!, aged 16, was arrested on Saturday on a charge of stealing a large quantity of biscuits, jams, lollies, Ac., from the warehouse of E. F. Hawke, Harris street, in which he was employed. It appears that for some time past goods have been missed from the warehouse, and eventually the services of the detectives were called in. Paithfull was arrested at the warehouse on Saturday morning, and later on Chief-Detective Campbell and Detective Neill proceeded, armed with a search warrant, to the premises of two Chinese named Joe Way and Kong Wart Sam, who carry on business in the Adelaide road. There they found large quantities of goods which are supposed to have been taken from Mr Hawke’s warehouse. They include dozens of tins of biscuits, jams, lollies and such like, two express loads of which they despatched to the Police Station, where the goods fill all one side of the detective’s office.

Joe Way and Kong Wart Sam were also arrested, and taken to the Police Station on a charge of having received the goods knowing them to have been stolen. Later on all three accused were released on bail—Faithful! in a bond of £3O and a personal recognisance of a similar amount, and each of the Chinamen in two sureties of £IOO each and their personal bonds of £IOO each. They will be charged with the offences at the Magistrate’s Court this morning, when a remand will probably ho asked for. We understand that tho friends of the lad Faithfull are confident that the charge will prove to be unfounded.
