A VALUABLE SYSTEM OF TRAIN SIGNALLING.
The system of signalling trains known as the “ Winter Block ” was brought into operation at the railway stations between Wellington and ; Lower Hutt yesterday. The Winter Block system has been largely, adopted in connection with railways in other parts of the world, and it is regarded as being as safe a method'of train signalling as the fallability of human nature 7 can secure. Provided that the instruments are in.working order, and the train men regard' the signals, collisions between, trains on the Block sections should bo impossible The establishment of a Block system on the Wellington, suburban line has been long required, and the Railway Department have done the right thing in fulfilling that requirement.
