Ninety men have handed in their names to the Mayor as being out of work, and unable to get any; nearly all being married men with families. At the second meeting held round the lamp post this afternoon the men resolved on the motion of Mr Powell, seconded by Mr Whiting, that the Mayor be requested to act as treasurer, and that a subscription list be opened for the relief of the wives and families of those ont of work. The meeting adjourned till to-morrow at the same time, Mr Powell says he will meet every day till work it provided. At a meeting of the unemployed this afternoon Mr Whiting announced that be should be a candidate for Christchurch at the general election.
