THE WELLINGTON SPECIAL SETTLEMENT ASSOCIATION.
The first annual meeting of members of the Special Settlement Association (No. 2) was held at the Athemeum last night. There was a small attendance, and Mr John Anderson .occupied the chair.
Tka annual report was then read. It stated, inter alia, that the bridle contract had been let, and the work was now nearly finished. The Committee had obtained the iollowing important concessions from the Minister, which affected all similar Associations :—(1) That married women should be allowed to hold sections in the block; (2) tbat the term within which residence is not compulsory had been extended from two to three years ; (3) that residence on township sections had been allowed as sufficient compliance with residential conditions ; (4) that the Government had agreed to expend £ioo on the construction of a road leading from the main road, Masterton to Woodville, direct to the block, and the road was now being laid off. The Committee gave its best thanks to the Government for these concessions. The survey contract was now, after delay on the part of tho surveyor which had not been accounted for, nearly complete, and the plans were undergoing inspection. The balance-sheet showed a balance of £66 6s 8d at the bank, and a fixed deposit of £IOO with the Wellington Building and Deposit Company. On the motion of Mr Falkner, the report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following gentlemen were elected a committee for the ensuing year : —Messrs C. F. Richmond, Fauvel, Falkner, Bayliss, Kershaw, Anderson, and Morgan. Several questions were asked in reference to the progress of work, and so on. A vote of thanks was passed to the outgoing Committee, and the meeting terminated. ’
