PEDESTRIANISM AT CHRISTCHURCH.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Christchurch, February 9. A hurdle race, of 120yda, for a small sweepstake, took place in .Lancaster Park between G. B. Shaw, an English pedestrian, and W. McDowell and P. Ford, members of the Canterbury Athletic Association, to-day. Ford got away first and held the lead for about half the distance, when he waa caught by Shaw and MoDowell. The former went straight away from him, and MoDowell took second place. Shaw finished first, winning easily, MoDowell ascond, and Ford last. Time, Imin and a 15th of a sec. This beats the record at the last athletic sports. Shaw took the hardies cleanly and neatly, and could evidently have made better time had he been pushed.
