COUNTY ELECTIONS INVALIDATED.

The hearing of the petitions against the county elections for the ridings of Crmhington, Murray, and Ueefton respectively, took place to-day. In each the allegations were very similar, the petitions relying upon the refusal of the returning officer to allow persons not enrolled to vote by virtue of miner*’ rights presented. It Cims out th»t the whole of tho returning officers bad received piloted instructions from the council not to allow others than those on tho roll to vote, and to refuse to put to voters the residential question prescribed hy the Counties Act Amendment and Local Elections Act. His Worship held in each case that the action of the returning officers was irregular, an I Invalidated the elections. The three elections were therefore declared void. Four vacancies have thus been created in the council, the unseated members being P. Brennan (county chairman) and W. Campbell (Rtefton), J. Craig (Murray), and James Lynch (Oruahiugton). Full costs were allowed to the petitioners in each case. Mr Menteath and Mr North appeared for the petitioners, and Mr Lynch for the defence. Great interest was taken in the proceedings, and the court was crowded throughout the day,
