WAKEFIELD.

While cycling home on the evening of March 4. a lad named Pereival Watson, aged fifteen, son of Mr E. W. Watson of Wai-iti, met with a gainful and somewhat serious accident. It was caused by the forks of the bicycle breaking at the junction wiUi the handle «ndket, with the result that young Watson was throAvn heavily en hi© head on the hard road, which rendered him unconscious. Fortunately it happened .about one hundred yards from the young lad’© hum©, whither he Avas removed, and a messenger was sent for medical aid. Dr Hamilton attended, and found the lad suffering from concussion of the brain, and severe cuts about the face and head.

The first concert under the auspices qf "the Richmond Philharmonic Society was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall last Evening, when there was a full house. The concert Avas a most successful one, and, judging by the applause Avhich greeted eveiy item, wa© evidently much enjoyed. The second quarter commenced cm Tuesday, and ali"eady several ucav members have joined. Should there be sufficient, an endeavour Avill be made to •have an orchestra for the next concert. The AVeabher is all that could be desired for hop-picking and that industry is in full swing.
