A popular wedding took place in Dovedale last Wednesday, when M:iss Win and Mr W. Jordan! were married by the Rev. A. Reader in the local Methodist Chapel. The bride is* a great favourite, taking a lively interest in church and sunday-school work and any local amusement. She is also a good singer and a member of the Good Templar Lodge. She was tastefully dressed in lavendev
grey taffeta. Her bridesmaids w-eia A. and B. Win, and A. and B. Jordan. About fifty friends sac down to a sumptuous wedding breakfast, and at nignt old and young flocked to the hall, wr.ere a merry time was passed. The happy couple were the recipients of numerous useful and ornamental presents. The Dovedale Farmers, Union have a Debating Club in connection with the union, and find it a source of profitable amusement. Last Monday there was a mock Parliamentary election, the voting being as follows: —Mr Douglas (Liberal), IS; Mr Thorn (Liberal), 8; Mr F. Turner (Prohibitionist), 11; Mr J. Lammas (Oppositionist), 10; Mr W. Hawk (Oppositionist), 9. Other unions might do worse than follow their example. The school inspectors have finished examining the schools in the Waimea, and report them as better than last year. Encouraging reports are being received from the Aniseed Valley Copper Mines, near Nelson. The prospecting drives are proving the abundance of valuable ore in all directions. Miss Clara Hanrop. teacher of the 88 Valley School, has Wen appointed to Waimangaroa, and leaves here in a month.
The weather is fine—sunny during the day, and frosty at night.
