ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the New Zealand lvennel Club, held in the Chamber of Commerce last Wednesday, was attended by the president, Dr 11. Faulke, and Messrs F. Clarke, P. Hunter, G. F. D. Watson (vice-presidents), W. Ryan and R. H. Shepherd (Auckland Kennel Club), S. Morton ' and <M. • G. Grenside (Wanganui A. and P. Association), A. Robertson (Wairarapa P.P. ajid D. Association), R. E. ..Bannister (Hawke’s Bay A. and P. Society), A. Minogue (Bull-dog Club of New Zealand), W. F. Derwood and D. Wright (Egmont A. and P. Association), J. T. E. Harrap (Southland P.B.P. and D. Society), C. Barton (Dunedin Fanciers’ Club), W. C. Leversedge (Gore Fanciers’ Club), W. 11. Lambert and S. E. Harrop (Hawke’s Bay K. and P. Club), J. C. Lane (Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association), G. D. Watson (Manawatu Kennel Club), W. Janson (hon .treasurer) and H. E. Dovey (secretary), J. Davi s and E. Hutchen (Wellington Kennel Club). The annual report stated that a pleasing feature of the pash year had been the interest displayed by the delegates in the various matters under discussion at the monthly meetings of the New Zealand Kennel Club. From a numerical point of view, the list of affiliated clubs is just about on a par with that of last year. During the latter part of the year some interesting discussions took place upon, the mode of allotting challenge classes to the various affiliated societies, showing the existence of wide differences of opinion upon this important matter. The annual financial statement presented was not so favourable as that of last year. It must be borne in mind, however, that the increased expenditure had been necessitated through the procuring of up-to-date registers (which form a valuable asset), the designing and printing of the champion certificate, etc. In other respects the balance-sneet is a favourable one, showing a credit balance of £l3 9s, besides which therg is an amount of £ls 15s for outstanding subscriptions. Fanciers are gradually falling into the reading of the New Zealand Kennel Club rules and less friction has been noticeable this year ; the question of registration is still, however, the cause of a little misunderstanding. The receipts for the year amounted to £92 5s 3d and the expenditure to £76 18s 3d. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Mr Lane moved that the suggested alterations to rules and regulations of the New Zealand Kennel Club (a large number of which appeared on the order 4>aper) should fee submitted to a committee, consisting of Messrs P. Hunter, R. Shepherd, R. E. Bannister, G. F. D. Watson, and the mover, with power to bring down a report, and report to a meeting at 4.30 p.m. next day. Mr

Hunter seconded the motion. A lons and somewhat irregular discussion followed. There was a general feeling that the rules required drastic alteration.

The motion was carried, and the other business of the meeting was accordingly adjourned until next day. The adjourned meeting of the delegates to the New Zealand Kennel Club was held in the Chamber of Commerce last Thursday. In the absence of the president, Mr W. Ryan (Auckland) occupied the chair. The chief business of the meeting w'as consideration of the report brought down by the sub-com-'mittee appointed yesterday to deal with the suggested alteration to rules. Mr J. O. Lane explained the various alterations and additions in the draft copy of the proposed new rules supplied to members. In a nutshell, he said, the chief object of revision was to have the business of the club facilitated, and to do away with the anomalies of the past. After discussion, the rules -were adopted seriatim, with slight alteration. The following office-bearers were elected: —President, Mr P. Hunter; delegates, Messrs W. F. Durward (Palmerston North), W. Ryan (Auckland), W. Janson (Wellington), and E. Webster (Dunedin); secretary, Mr H. Dovey (re-elected); lion treasurer, Mr W. Jansen (re-elected). A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the retiring president, Dr Faulke.
