WAIT ARA.

'From Our Own Correspondent.)

Bad weather marred a. great deal folks taking holiday trips, but on Christmas Day and Boxing Day the weather took up fine and helped to make things more pleasant. Trade has been fairly brisk with business people, but farmers on the whole have had rather a bad season, chiefly owing to the water “drought.” Produce next year ought to command a fair market. The s.s. Waimate completed her loading last week. Cargo from here was chiefly wool. The freezing works are taking form quickly. The men are busy erecting the necessary machinery, and when the building is finished will be quite up-to-date in all branches.

The Ullander boys, now undergoing treatment for feet malformation in Christchurch under Dr Hertz, have been reported to be progressing satisfactorily, and every success is entertained for the complete use of their deformed feet. The sum ox £4l was l'aised by means of a garden party and concert, under the 'organisation of Miss Telfar and Black, towards the expenses of the treatment. Mr Charles Sampson was married on Tuesday last to Miss Woodcock, both being well known in Waifara.
