The second day of the New Zealand Axemen’s Carnival was again a lovely day and there was in coil-sequence a large turnout of spectators though not so great as ion the first day. The New Zealand Axemen’s Cup for chopping, the single-handed and double-handed sawing championships were the main events. The final heats for these resulted as follows: —Chopping: F. Johnston, Dannevirke, 55sec, 1; J. Beardsley, Danuevirke, 50sec, 2; R. Be-rtko, Kaponga, 35-sec, 3; Gus. Blanc, Tasmania, scr, 4. Singlehanded Sawing: G. A. Gooid, Tasmania, 1; C. F. A. Volzke, Midliuist, 2; C. W. Casey, Eltham, j}. Double-handed Sawing: Baird Brothers, 1; Terry and Buckingham and Kind berg Brothers tied, and divided second and third prizes. Concerts and dances in connection with the Axemen’s Carnival were given on each night and were well attended. At a meeting of tne Eltham High School Committee, held on Wednesday night, the Hon. W. Car across was nominated for the vacancy on the "Wanganui Education Board caused by the resignation of Mr Newman. The nominations close on January 4tli, and the election will be held towards the end of the month.

Miss iS. A. Lord, daughter of Mr J. Lord, of Mountain road, and Mr Percy Franks, of Mangawhero road, were married in the Primitive Methodist Church on 28th December. On the 31st December Mr Gordon Forbes, of K awhia, was married to Miss A. Glentworth, daughter -of Mr R. Glentworth, Eltham. The ceremony was performed in All Saints’ Church, Eltha-m, by the Rev. J. A. Jacob, of Hawera.
