A farewell social to Mr J. Cameron, railway stationmaster, and Mrs Cameron was tendered by the residents of the town and surrounding district last -week. The attendance was very, numerous. Mr R. H. Tod occupied the chair. Occasion was taken to present to Mr Cameron a gold watch, subscribed by public subscription, and to Mrs Cameron a dress ring- Mr Tod made the presentation, a/nd referred in fitting terms to the outstanding good qualities as a railway man and a resident possessed by Mr Cameron. The recent cold weather of the first, second, and third January caused considerable mortality of sheep. One settler at Argyle lost about three hundred, and there were smaller losses.
