GISBORNE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
THE SAN FRANCISCO MAIL SERVICE. THE NEEDS OF GISBORNE. GISBORNE, Saturday. The Chamber of Commerce passed a resolution favouring the continuance of Auckland as a port of call for the San’ Francisco mail steamers. The Chamber of Commerce also resolved to strongly press upon the Government the various requirements of the district, particularly with regard” to tltc' opening up of the unreeded areas by light railways to tap the bush district of the interior. A further resolution, to the effect that tliis Chamber of Commerce desired to again draw the attention of the Government to the great necessity there is for such remedial legislation as will enable the natives to utilise the great areas of unoccupied lands in the- Gisborne district for settlement was carried unanimously.
