THE CANTERBURY WINTER SHOW.

Christchurch, May 2G. The Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s Winter Show was opened in Tattersail’s and Mai son’s wool store to-day. The entries numbered 27 more than at last show. The fat cattle and sheep were extremely good. In dairy produce there was keener competition, and a better quality of exhibits than last year. Hams and bacon were not so numerous, but some very fine grain seeds were shown, and the roots were also good. The fruit was admirable. Following are the principal prizes : —Dairy produce.—Two cheeses not less than 601 b, suitable for export (coloured) Waikouaiti Dairy Factory Company, 1; Stirling Dairy Factory, 2 ; Wyndham Dairy Factory Company, c. Two factory-mado cheeses, suitable for export (white)-Stirling Dairy Factory, 1; Hew Zealand and Australian Land Company, 2. Two factorymade cheeses made prior to November Ist, 1896—Wyndham Dairy Factory Company, 1; Stirling Dairy Factory, 2. Ten pounds fresh butter (separator) —Tai Tapu Dairy Factory, 1; F. McGowan, 2; Canterbury Central Dairy Factory, h.c. Butter for export—Wyndham Dairy Factory Company, 1 and 2 ; Tai Tapu Dairy Factory, h.c. Ten pounds salt butter (separator) — Sefton Dairy Factory, 1 $ Canterbury

Central Dairy Factory, 2. A very fine collection of apples \ias shown by Adams, Greendale. Mr A. E. Tutton took special prizes for th« best pair of fat bullocks and the best fat bullock in the yard. Mr S. Ga'rforth. took a special prize for the best pen of freezing wethers.
