THE SELF-HELP SOCIETY.

A sale of work in connection with the Self-Help Society was opened on Tuesday afternoon in the meeting house, Taranaki street. The room was decorated with evergreens, flowers and flags, and on one aide the goods for sale were displayed. These consisted of pinafores, children's dresses and underclothing, women's dresses, underclothing ; and in fact everything that is useful. The articles had all been made by the mothers during the meeting hours on Thursdays, and reflected much credit on them all. In opening the sale, Mrs Seddon said that every credit was due to Mrs Fulton and to those who had so ably assisted her in the self-help work. They had before them evidence of what could be done when willing hands were plied to make useful things. The proceeds of the sale would enable funds to be raised and applied for the benefit of those needing assistance, and those who had helped to make the articles were able to buy them if they chose at reasonable prices. It was a good thing to find their sisters able and willing to help those in adversity. For them to assist by their kindness and example in improving the lot of those less ■ fortunate was most commendable. The devotion of Mrs Fulton and the Society'was deserving of all praise, and those present could, by purchasing the work for sale, to some extent show their appreciation of the good work which had been accomplished: ■_ •» Mrs Seddon was presented with a very handsome bouquet by Mrs Fulton.
