TROUBLE IN THE KIRK.

Auckland, Juno 1. Trouble at present reigns in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Alton road.

Tho Rov James Milne, M.A., who is Moderator of tho Presbytery of Sydney, was lately elected to tho pastorate of tho church by a show of hands of the congregation, but the call, which requires a three-fifths majority of the communicants, has not yet been made effective. In tho meantime Mr G. Mueller, one of tho minority, who has doctrinal objections to tho election of Mr Milne, petitioned tho Presbytery against the election. Tioiible arose over certain questions as to Mr Milne's general orthodoxy, which the reverend gentleman answered at a Christian fellowship meeting in November last, when he was in Auckland for a fortnight in view of becoming a candidate for the ministry of the church. Mr Milno arrived in Auckland from Oamaru, where he had been assisting in consequence of there being a vacancy in that district. He preached at St. Andrew's yesterday, both in tho forenoon and evening, and dealt seriatim with thu objections in Mr Mueller's protest. The church was crowded on each occasion.

This morning at 11 o'clock a meeting of St. Andrew's congregation was hold, the Rev R. Sommorvillo presiding. There was a large attendance of both male and female members of the congregation. After somo excited discussion the statement was withdrawn.
