THE EDUCATION SYSTEM.
The scrutiny of tho referendum votes on tho education question in South Australia is taking a long time. So far tho 15 districts completed show:— In favour of the present systom of education, 29,432; against. 92G0. In favour of Bible reading in schools, 10,025; against, 18,978. In favour of capitation to denominational schools, 0791; against, 23,(506. Mr Chamberlain, speaking at Birmingham, declared that the Government, so far as ho was concerned, would not yield any vital point on the Voluntary Schools Bill. It was certain, he said, that the measure would improve and popularise the education system. A lady has boon elected on tho Eltham Pc'iool Committeo, and also on tho Waiuiangaroa (Taranaki) Committeo. In the latter case tho lady has been appointed chairwoman of the committeo.
