THE WAVERLEY HOTEL.

The hotel accommodation of tho southern portion of Wellington lias boon increased by the erection of the Waverley Hotel, situated at the corner of Donald McLean street and Riddiford street, and just opened by tho licensee, Mr George Y. Dennis, for some time tho host of tho To Aro Hotel. The building was built by Mr R. Spurway, from designs prepared by Mr J, O’Dea, architect, and is admirably fitted for the accommodation of the public. The building is of wood, two stories in height, and of ornamental design, having a frontago of 72ft to Donald McLean street and 40ft to Riddiford street, the height from the footpath to the parapet being 31ft. Tho internal decorations are of an artistic character, tho furniture and fittings are of tho most comfortable description, and tho building is lit with the electric light. Access to tho bar can bo gained from both streets, while in addition there are numerous adjuncts in the shape of commercial room, sittingrooms and a cosy bar-parlour. Thero is also provided a cool concrete cellar, 40ft by 30ft, one of tho largest in tho city. The billiard-room will accommodate two tables, and tho licensee has ordered a tablo from Messrs Wright, Kanish and Co., of this city. At the rear of tho hotel is a large room suitable for meetings, the sleeping accommodation provided is extensive and of a comfortable description. The dining-room is largo, with a well-equipped kitchen adjoining, and the hotel is provided with fire-escape, lavatory and stabling accommodation. Mr Dennis is thoroughly satisfied with tlie manner in which the work has been carried out, and hopes to receive a largo share of public support. It is his intention to apply for permission to change tho name of tho house to “ The Park ” Hotel.
