A gentleman who has just returned from a trip through tho west aoast of the North Island states that tho country is looking well after the roconfc rains and business appears to be brisk, while there is no sign of any number of persons being out of employment. In Wanganui, it is reported, thero is not a vacant house, and new bouses arc being erected. In the scheme for the improvement of Eltham .£2OOO will bo spent, and the roads ami streets will be formed and other necessary works undertaken.
