MELROSE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

At tho ordinary meeting of tho Mel rose Borough Council on Tuesday evening a deputation of residents of Oliiro road waited on tho Council and asked that something should bo clone towards repairing that portion of the road within the city boundary, which tho deputation stated was now made impassable through numerous slips. It was decided that a deputation from the Council with residents of Oliiro road should wait on tho Wellington City Council on Thursday night with reference to the matter.

Councillor Baylis gave notice to move at next meeting that a general rate of 15-lGths of a penny bo levied on all ratablo property in the borough, and that a charitable aid rate of l-sth of a penny ho also levied.

Councillor Baylis said that tliero was now a sum of i,'2GS 5s 7d outstanding for rates, and, on his motion, it was decided that in all cases where there is more than one year’s rate outstanding the clerk bo instructed to take immediate proceedings for their recovery, and after ono month from date to proceed to recover this year’s outstanding rates. Accounts amounting to D9I 19s 3d were passed for payment.
