THE REWARDS OF BRAVERY.
THE GOVERNMENT TO GRANT MEDALS AND CERTIFICATES. Hitherto there has been no systematic provision in New Zealand for officially recognising deeds of bravery and merit. All that has been left either to the Royal Humane Society of England or to the Australasian Humane Society, and the process is necessarily tedious and uncertain. The Government have resolved to take steps to supply the want. For deeds of bravery and merit and conduct ' i the saving of life, medals of gold, silver and bronze, as well as certificates, are to be prepared, and competitive designs for the meda's are to be inyited almost immediately.
