THE GUN.

WELLINGTON GUN CLUB. The Wellington Provincial Gun Club's annual open handicap pigeon match was fired at the Agricultural and Pastoral Association Show Grounds on Friday. The conditions were anything but favourable. A fierce northerly wind blew all day, and under the circumstances there was some very good shooting. The competitors included crack ehots from Canterbury, Wanganui, Blenheim, Wairarapa and Hawke's Ba.y. The first prize of «£65 was carried off by Mr C. A. Chavannes, of Wanganui, with his first nomination, killing eight birds out of nine. This is a small score to win with, but the weather is to be blamed, and not the shootist. Mr Chavannes, who shot brilliantly under adverse circumstances, also succeeded with his second nomination in dividing for the second, third and fourth prizes of <£2o, .£lO and £5 respectively. The others who divided for these prizes were; Messrs H. Bailey, of Bangiora; 8. Scott, of Wellington; T. H. Thompson and H. Campbell, of Masterton, each securing seven birds out of nine. Both Messrs B. MoNab and J. Holman (assumed name) fired well at first, but fell away at the finish. Mr Scott came out best of the local men. Mr A. H. Burkhill showed capital form in the sweepstake matches, dividing for tho first prize in each. The arrangements were satisfactory in every way, and for this credit i 3 due to Mr W. H. Tisdall, upon whom has devolved the secretarial duties during the unavoidable absence of the secretary, Mr W. A. Aldred. Mr Pointon satisfactorily discharged the duties of referee. The members cf the committee were Messrs W. S. Broderick, S. Brown, H. D. Crawford, J. H. Kingdon, W. L. Meek, C. W. Mullins, H. D. O'Callaghan. S. Scott, C. G. White and T. M.
