HUNTING.

HUNTING DATES. Rangitixei Hunt. August 3—Overton. After several postponements of late the members of the Hunt Club were fortunate on Saturday in having a fine afternoon for a gallop across country after the hounds, which met at 2.30 at the Hutt Bridge. After trotting along the road as far as the property of Mr Hooper at the Taita, the hounds picked up the scent, the drag having been laid for the first two runs over some three miles of good country to Mr Buck's by Mr Maurice Welch (a resident of the Taita) on foot. The last run, laid by Mr Mellow, junr., was from Mr Milne's down to Mr Mellow's, where the hounds checked, and this ended a very pleasant afternoon's sport. The going was good considering' the recent heavy rain. The field consisted of Lady Alice Boyle, who was riding Fly, Mr Arthur Cooper (deputy - master) on Halicore, Mr G. Gathorne-Hardy on Hailstorm, Captain Campbell Preston on Snuff, Messrs J. C. Hanna on Freshfield, D. B. Turner on the

I Liar, Mellow, junr., on a roan, B. Skerrett ott I How's That, C. Bridson on Rangatira, J. i F. Mills on Toprail, and Geo. McDonald ] (huntsman') on Judas in charge of the I hounds, which were in good trim. During ! the first run Hailstorm, Mr G. Gathorne- / Hard;* 's mount, got hung up in a wire fence, and was badly cut about.
