ATHLETICS.

A wrestling match for £SO a side in the Cumberland style, between Wm. Hudson, an old ex-champion of New Zealand, and Arthur Brightwell, a half-caste from Wanganui, took place on Friday night in Professor Richardson's rooms, adjoining the Princess Theatre. Mr. H. McKay was the referee. Hudson secured the first fall and Brightwell the second, but in the third and final bout the men had only been wrestling a very short time when the referee stated that Brightwell had broken his hold, and he awarded the fall to Hudson, who was therefore declared the winner. Brightwell and his supporters were very much dissatisfied with the decision. At the first meeting of the Manawatu Sports Association, the report showed that there was a promising future before the Society. Acknowledgment was made of the services rendered by Mr Wollerman, to whose energy the establishment of the Association was almost wholly due. The following directors were elected :—Messrs Wollerman, Beck, Brandon, Eliott, Clarkson, Cooke and Denny. Mr R. N. Keeling was elected auditor. It was decided to charge a fee of 5s to all athletes, other than shareholders, who make use of the track for training purposes. The balance-sheet of the Wellington Amateur Athletic Club shows that the receipts were £284 5s sd, including £4O 6a lid balance from the previous year. The expenditure \ was £269 3s lid, leaving a balance of £ls Is 6d. The assets consist; of plate, plant and fittings, &c, valued at £146 19s.
