OBITUARY.
The death is announced of Mr Vesey Fitzgerald, who was recently appointed one of the Creditors’ Committee in London of the City of Melbourne Bank. The oldest European resident of Otaki, Mrs Eliza Bevan, died on Sunday. The deceased was the widow of Mr Thomas Bevan, whose second wife she had been, and since his death, about ten years ago, had, although almost totally blind, lived alone. She was 81 years of age, and came to the Colony in the Walter Lang many years ago.
Our Masterton correspondent wrote on Tuesday:—Mrs Mary Jones, wife of Mr Henry Jones, one of the oldest settlers in the district, passed away this morning at the ripe old age of 80 years. The deceased was well kno'vn and highly respected. She leaves a large family of children and grandchildren.
