AEAWA SAILING CLUB.
The Arawa Sailing Club's first race for the half-raters took place on Saturday. The Miru, Vixen and Dauntless started, and got away well together with a splendid full sail breeze. The Miru wis the first to round the Point Jerningbam buoy, the Vixen bem«- a few yards behind. On the beat the Miru and Vixen were about even. Mr Turnbull's boat gradually increased her lead in the calm water, and completed the first round some distance ahead of the Vixen, and drawing away slowly in th« second-finished 7min ssec before the Vixen, which was second. Mr Chalmers was not able to put the'deck on the Dauntless in time for the race, and having to sail her open she was quite out of the race in the rough water; in fact it is a marvel how he managed to keep her afloat. He won the race, however, owing to the other two boats being disqualified for going round the wrong buoy. The 18ft race was won by the lona, but Mr J. Chalmers, who was second, has requested that the race be resailed, as he went to the assistance of a boat which capsized, thus losing about two minutes, which would have won him the race on time allowance. „ -,■'!. The Belle won the 14ft race, the Oriental finishing second. This completes this race. Mr J. Jones' Curro did not start, but as she won the other two heats she takes the first prize (Mr James Coates' carvers), and the Belle, with 7 points, has won the second prize of 10s. Lonpon, February 17.
