The prizes awarded to the pupils of Woodcote House School, Hobson street, were distributed on Tuesday afternoon by Ladv Glasgow, in the unavoidable absence of His Excellency the Governor. Among those present were the Ven Archdeacon. Fancourt, Rev T. H. Sprott, Dr Newman, M.H.R., the Mayor (Mr A. de B. Brandon), Messrs J. P. Maxwell, E. J. Reid, W. PEQuick, J. B. Harcourt, TV. H. Fitzherbert, L. Stowe, C. C. N. Barron, &c. Mr C. L. Gardiner, 8.A., Principal of the school, read his annual report, and before doing so, said it was not true that lie was goinj to leave Wellington. The report spoke highly of the work done by the. boys. The Principal thanked Mr Bannister, assistant master, for his hearty and conscientious co-operation in carrying on the work of the school, and for the keen unflagging interest he had taken in cricket and gymnastics. The thanks of the school were due to Mr C. C. N. Barron for so kindly again presenting the cricket bat and shield for the best average, and to the Rev C. Tisdall for giving a prize for English literature. (Applause.) , Dr Newman, M.H.R., congratulated Mr Gardiner on the continued success of the The Yen Archdeacon Fancourt felt that he owed a deep debt of gratitude to Mr Gardiner for establishing such an institution. During the afternoon some of the older boys of the school who are leaving the in- - stitution! presented Mr Gardiner and Mr Bannister with tokens of their regard and ' esteem on their departure in the shape ot a pipe and tobacco pouch to Mr Gardiner, and a pipe to Mr Bannister. . \ i, cricket match between the Woodcote - House Cricket Club and the Wellington l College third eleven was played the . Hobson street paddock previous to the _ dis- . tribution of prizes, and resulted in a draw r in favour of the College.
