THE WAIRARAPA DISASTER.
The following is the list of those relieved by the Wellington Committee: — John Austin, <£10; John Madden, <£10; Angus Black, <£10; G. B. Tuxworfch, £lO ; Langley, .£10; J. Levesque, £lO ; Dr Harris, £SO ; J. R. Harris, £5. . The followiu.o’ amounts have also been paid, which, with the amount received by the same men in Auckland, brings the total to £lO each: T Henderson, £3 7s 3d; T. Clarke, £3 5s 8d; D. M. Roberts, £2 14s 2d; Wm. Brown, £2 15s lOd. The total paid by the Wellington Committee to' date is £127 2s Hcl The latest subscriptions to the Relief Fund are as follow : —Mangaone School, 17s 6d; Shannon School, 10s Id; collected at Masterfcon, £22 10s; Paxkakariki, 4s; Tutaekara School, 6s 2d; collected at New Plymouth (third instalment), £5 12s; collected by Miss Mcllyride at Wainui-o-mata, £4< 12s 4d ; Huia Minstrels, £8 Is 3d : total, £2105 19s 6d. At a meeting of the sub-commxtfee ol the Wairarapa Relief Fund last week, the following resolution was carried :■ “-That after relieving urgent cases of necessity, the funds remaining should be allocated to,and invested for andin the names of, the widows and orphans and aged re latives of those drowned ; and that since the Otago Committee have already made provision for some of these cases, they be asked to give the Wellington Committee particulars of the cases for which they have made no provision.” Auckland, December 14. The Union Steam Ship Company lias sent presents to residents at the Great Barrier in acknowledgment of their kindness to the Wairarapa survivors. Dunedin, December 16.
Judge Ward has handed the Union Company £lO as a mark of sympathy with the family of Mrs McDonald, the late stewardess of the Wairarapa.
