CHARITABLE AID.

I Tho Benevolent Society Trustees met on Tuesday afternoon. Present—lie v 11. Van Staveren (chairman), Messrs R. Mothes, J. Heaton, S. Lancaster, T. W. Mo Kenzie, G. M. Kebbell and 11. Baylis. A labouring man with a family, who had recently arrived from Timaru, was granted rations. Van Staveren) said he hoped the work would start not later than next Monday. Mr McKcnzie said it was a great shamo that there was so much delay. The fortnightly meeting of the Hospital Trustees was held on Tuesday. Present— Messrs F. H. Frasor (chairman), L. L. Harris, C. E. Willeston, J. Collins, G. Allen, C. W. Brown, R. C. Kirk, J. Danks and Rev H. Van Staveren. Accounts amounting to .£598 were passed for payment. The tender of Messrs Lyon and Blair for printing tickets, &c, was accepted, being the lowest of eight received. Mr Stevenson, the lessee of one of the allotments in Pipitea street, wrote requesting that certain alterations be made to the property. Tho letter was referred to the House Committee. Mr O'Conor wrote asking for an extension for 12 months of the lease of another section in Pipitea street. This letter was referred to tho same Committee, as was also a letter from Mrs Norgrove, who offered to take up a section in N the samo street at 7s 6d per foot. The Chairman stated that ho and Mr Gaby had inspected tho steam-heating apparatus at tho Porirua Asylum, with a view of seeing whether some such system could not be adopted for the Hospital. The Trustees decided that they would visit tho Asylum in a body for a similar purpose on Thursday in next week. It was decided to proceed with tho erection of a mattress-room, which tho Chairman said would cost about .£4O.
