THE VICTORIAN LOAN.
By Electric Telegraph. —Copyright, COMMENTS OF THE LONDON PRESS. (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) London, April 14. Victorian scrip is quoted at par. The Times, referring to the failure of the Victorian loan, considers that the colonies have been allowed to borrow too cheaply, and that their most sanguine friends must now see that the time has arrived for them to at least moderate their demands. The Standard states the rebuff will prove a useful lesson to Victoria, which, like her neighbours, has trusted to extravagant borrowing through the syndicate system. It adds that the subscription list, though not providing sufficient money to cover the loan, is a healthy one. The Daily Telegraph thinks the mini • mum was fixed at too high a price, and that the rate of interest ought to be about 4 per cent. London, April 15. The Victorian loan is quoted at $ discount.
