GOLD MINING NEW*. YALUABLE REEF IN THE BIG RIVER MINE. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Reefton, March 19, The Big River mine manager reports that tbe reef has been cut in the crosscut at a distance of Gsft from the chamber. It is ISin thick at the place cut, ar d shows good gold. A shot was put in this afternoon. The drillings were tried in a dish and gave a good prospect. The gold is well distributed through the solid Btone. This reef will give 450 ft of backs. The Cumberland is stated to be crushing to-day. Reefton, March 20. The Specimen Hill Company offer £SOO reward for the discovery of a payable reef in the Company’s ground. The A 1 lease that gave a yield of 20oz gold to tbe ton from a small crushing on Saturday is to be formed into a company of 24,000 shares. The original holders retain 12,000, and float the balance at Is. (PER FKESS ASSOCIATION.) Westport, March 23. In the District Court to-day the action Guilhan v. the Fairmaid Gold Mining Comp&ny, a claim of £l3B for extra work in catting a water race, also £SO special damage, resulted in a nonsuit, with costa.
